At some point today, between Walmart, lunch, and an afternoon birthday party for one of Kyle's friends, I plan to start priming the downstairs bathroom. It took a couple days of joint compound, but I finally got the wall where the vanity was fairly smooth. Of course there was the mishap with the shop vac when I started to vacuum up all the drywall dust before realizing that the filter was NOT in the shop vac and I was blowing the drywall dust all over the downstairs. Oops! One small mental breakdown and a two-day break later I'm ready to go! I've decided on the tile and the new vanity...yep, new vanity. As it turns out a pedestal sink won't work - at least not one in our budget. The water valves are too far apart and we would have to get a wider pedestal...more along the lines of a special order.
Pictures later!
UPDATE: I knew updating this house was not going to be easy when within the first two days of renovation last fall I found out that every bit of wallpaper in the house and been pasted directly to the drywall...no primer. And that every wall that didn't have wallpaper had been painted directly onto the drywall...no primer. So it should have been no surprise to me that they had sprayed the ceiling texture directly onto the drywall...no primer. Sigh! Somewhere along the line I decided to go ahead and paint the ceiling so while I was cutting in with the Kilz I put some on the ceiling around the edges...when I went back later to take down the exhaust fan cover I noticed that the ceiling texture was coming off in all the places I had painted! Crazy. So instead of getting the first coat of primer on everything, I ended up scraping off all the texture on the ceiling...which while messy actually makes me happy since I really hate popcorn ceilings! No worries though, I don't expect to suddenly start scraping all the ceilings!!!! One room at a time...that's my motto!

Hey, I'm so proud of your home improvements. My house is at a complete standstill. My mantra - everytime Mike buys himself something (or goes off to Greece) - is I'm STILL sitting on Grandma Heinisch's couch! Somehow that temporary fix is STILL with us. But not for long - I keep saying (12 years later). It's still got peanut butter stains from Reid because I 'Knew' then we were going to get rid of it soon. SIGH.
I'm sorry I've been so bad at keeping up. My life is all school and soccer. When I'm not doing those things it's laundry with HGTV and sleep. I'm nobody's friend these days.
Things are going really well at school. It's amazing how much easier it is now than when I first started. I'm really getting into my journalism classes - I really want to turn my program into something to be proud of. I'm going to apply for a national certification for journalism teachers this week. It won't get me any major benefits, but it will make me feel like I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing.
The kids got a big soccer goal for the front yard this weekend and have been practicing shooting goals all day. Reid has a tournament in Leavenworth next weekend and Hannah has a game on Saturday here - so we'll split the fun.
Laurel's girls had their backpacks all filled and ready for the first day of school last week - and the teachers went on strike. Looks like Wednesday may be the first day back for them. One time the Seattle teachers were striking for 40 days - which only got tacked onto the end of the calendar.
YUCK. Why don't they strike in March when everybody's sick of school? In Kansas we're not allowed to strike - but like our union rep said, nothing can prevent us from all getting sick on the same day. :)
I was sorry to read your blog about hurting someone's feelings. I always loved your frank opinions - and relied on them. And I still love your sense of humor - so don't let them get you down. You're terrific no matter what "they" say.
Have a great day. I wish I could pop over and visit. But this is almost as good.
Heather
